The Intocare and Butti powered surgical stapler is a unique blend of form and function. Its design, inspired by the human hand, combines hard and soft-touch surface finishes to offer better grip and mobility to surgeons. The system includes a universal handle, reusable for up to 100 surgeries, and five different stapler working heads. Each head is dedicated to a specific surgery, allowing doctors a lean learning experience compared to manual surgical staples.
What sets this device apart is its innovative design and functionality. The stapler significantly reduces the firing force, standardizes clinical outcomes, and features an intuitive design that allows for a quick plug-in method. The design is also earthward, aiming to save materials and energy.
The realization of this design was a meticulous process. The team started with defining a spectrum of functions and cross-referencing them with different hand sizes. This was followed by sketching, 3D modeling, and prototyping. The final product is a testament to the team's dedication to innovative design and functionality.
The design team, led by Eva Zhang, Alvin Du, Perry Liu, and Hari Shen, collaborated with the experienced and trend-setting Italian studio BUTTIstile industrial design. The key members of the project included Nicola (NIC) Butti, Eugenio Altieri, Jimmy Huang, Martin Mao, Monkey Zhou, Giulio Yu, and Ivo Chen.
The project started in 2015 in Suzhou and Wuxi, China. Over two and a half years, the team refined the concept, went through many styling options, prototypes, and pre-production models, and achieved Chinese national CFDA and EU CE + Ce certifications. The design was awarded the Golden A' Medical Devices and Medical Equipment Design Award in 2018, a testament to its innovative design and functionality.
Intocare's powered surgical stapler is a significant advancement in medical technology. It not only enhances the surgical experience but also sets a new standard for surgical stapling. The design's success is a testament to the team's dedication to innovation and functionality, and it is a promising sign of what's to come in the future of medical technology.
